Pinpoint Test A: Shift Interlock System Does Not Release/Lock Correctly

- A1 TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS
- Apply the brake pedal and view the brake lights.
- Do the brake lights illuminate?
- A2 TEST FUSE F32 (5A)
- Key in OFF position.
- Check fuse: Fuse F32 (5A)
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- A3 TEST CIRCUIT SBP32A (VT/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch C278
- Measure the resistance of circuit SBP32A (VT/RD) to ground at BPP switch C278-3.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to A4.
- NO : REPAIR circuit SBP32A (VT/RD) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A4 TEST CIRCUIT SBP32A (VT/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Smart Junction Box (SJB) C2280B
- Measure the resistance of circuit SBP32A (VT/RD) between SJB C2280B-28 and the BPP switch C278-3.
- Is resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to A5.
- NO : REPAIR circuit SBP32A (VT/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A5 TEST THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION (BPP) SWITCH
- Measure the resistance of the brake pedal position (BPP) switch between C278-2 and C278-3 while open (OFF) and closed (ON).
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms with the BPP switch in the ON position and greater than 10,000 ohms with the BPP switch in the OFF position?
- YES : Go to A6.
- NO : INSTALL a new BPP switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A6 TEST CIRCUIT CCB15C (BN/GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: Shift Interlock Actuator C2008
- Measure the resistance of circuit CCB15C (BN/GN) between shift interlock actuator C2008-3 and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to A7.
- NO : REPAIR circuit CCB15C (BN/GN) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A7 TEST CIRCUIT CCB15C (BN/GN) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of circuit CCB15C (BN/GN) between shift interlock actuator C2008-3 and the brake pedal position (BPP) switch C278-4.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to A8.
- NO : REPAIR circuit CCB15C (BN/GN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A8 TEST FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT CBP20G (YE/VT)
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage of circuit CBP20G (YE/VT) at the shift interlock actuator C2008-1.
- Is voltage greater than 10 volts?
- A9 TEST SJB FUSE F20 (10A)
- Key in START position.
- Check fuse: Fuse F20 (10A)
- Is the resistance of the fuse less than 5 ohms?
- A10 TEST CIRCUIT CBP20G (YE/VT) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance of circuit CBP20G (YE/VT) to ground at shift interlock actuator C2008-1.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- YES : Go to A11.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A11 TEST CIRCUIT CBP20G (YE/VT) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of circuit CBP20G (YE/VT) between the shift interlock actuator C2008-1 and the SJB C2280B-15.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to A12.
- NO : REPAIR circuit CBP20G (YE/VT) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A12 TEST CIRCUIT GD161AC (BK/YE) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of circuit GD161AC (BK/YE) to ground at the shift interlock actuator C2008-2.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : INSTALL a new shift interlock actuator. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REPAIR circuit GD161AC (BK/YE) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
