Removal And Installation

- Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding - 3.0L, 4.0L in this article.
- Remove the fan shroud. For additional information, refer to Cooling Fan Shroud - 3.0L, 4.0L in this article.
- Remove the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
- To install, tighten to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft).
- Slide the coolant bypass hose clamp up from the coolant pump.
- Disconnect the heater hose from the coolant pump.
- Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the coolant pump.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the coolant pump pulley.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Remove the bolts, the coolant pump and the gasket.
- Discard the gasket.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Clean all the sealing surfaces.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
CAUTION:
Use care when cleaning the water pump-to-engine block gasket mating surfaces. Gouges in the aluminum could form leak paths.
