  1. Drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding - 2.3L  in this article.
  2. Detach the coolant bypass hose from the routing clip.
  3. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose from the coolant bypass tube.


  1. Remove the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to DRIVESHAFT article.
  2. Remove the exhaust downpipe. For additional information, refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM article.
  3. NOTE: Manual transmission shown, automatic transmission similar.

  4. Support transmission with an appropriate transmission jack.
  5. Remove the 6 crossmember-to-frame bolts (3 on each side).
    • To install, tighten to 101 Nm (74 lb-ft).
  6. Detach the transmission electrical connector and wiring harness retainers from the crossmember. Remove the transmission mount nuts and the crossmember.
    • To install, tighten to 99 Nm (73 lb-ft).
  7. Lower the transmission to access coolant bypass hose.
  8. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose from the rear coolant outlet pipe and remove the coolant bypass hose.
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
