Pinpoint Test P: The Luggage Compartment Lid Is Inoperative - With Police Package

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. P1 CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH FOR CORRECT OPERATION
    • Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Release Switch C534.
    • Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Release Switch C2203 or C2204.
    • Measure the resistance between the suspect luggage compartment lid release switch pin 1, component side and suspect luggage compartment lid release switch pin 2, component side while pressing and releasing the luggage compartment lid release switch.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms with the luggage compartment lid release switch released, and less than 5 ohms with the luggage compartment lid release switch pressed?

    Yes  : GO to P2.

No  : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid release switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

  2. P2 CHECK CIRCUITS 193 (YE/LG) AND 517 (BK/WH) FOR VOLTAGE
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the luggage compartment lid release switch(es), harness side and ground as follows:
LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID RELEASE SWITCH CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE

      Circuit Connector-Pin
      193 (YE/LG) C534-1
      517 (BK/WH) C2203-1
      193 (YE/LG) C2204-1
    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?

    Yes  : GO to P3.

No  : If the voltage is less than 10 volts on circuit 193 (YE/LG) check that other components on the accessory delay system operate correctly. If the accessory delay system is OK, REPAIR circuit 193 (YE/LG). TEST the system for normal operation.

If the voltage on circuit 517 (BK/WH) is less than 10 volts, VERIFY the BJB fuse 601 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  3. P3 CHECK CIRCUIT 84 (VT/YE) FOR AN OPEN
    • Disconnect: Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid C430.
    • Measure the resistance between the suspect luggage compartment release switch connector, circuit 84 (VT/YE), harness side and the luggage compartment latch connector, circuit 84 (VT/YE), harness side as follows:
LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT RELEASE SWITCH CONNECTOR-PIN REFERENCE

Luggage Compartment Release Switch Connector-Pin Luggage Compartment Latch Connector-Pin
      C430-2 534-2
      C430-2 C2203-2
      C430-2 C2204-2
    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?

    Yes  : GO to P4.

No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

  4. P4 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
    • Measure the resistance between the luggage compartment lid release solenoid C430-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes  : INSTALL a new luggage compartment lid latch. REFER to LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID LATCH . TEST the system for normal operation.

No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
