Pinpoint Test L: The Compressor Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
The Flex Probe Kit must be used for all test connections. Use of standard multimeter probes may damage wiring terminals.
- L1 CHECK THE AIR COMPRESSOR RELAY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Air Compressor Relay.
- Carry out the relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Does the relay pass the component test?
Yes : GO to L2.
No : INSTALL a new air compressor relay. REPEAT the self-test.
- L2 CHECK CIRCUIT 1053 (LB/PK) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Air Compressor Relay.
- Measure the voltage between air compressor relay cavity 3, circuit 1053 (LB/PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes : GO to L3.
No : VERIFY BJB fuse 112 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 1053 (LB/PK) for an open. REPEAT the self-test.
- L3 CHECK CIRCUIT 538 (PK) FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Air Compressor C1179.
- Measure the resistance between air compressor relay cavity 5, circuit 538 (PK), harness side and air compressor C1179-2, circuit 538 (PK), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes : GO to L4.
No : REPAIR circuit 538 (PK) for an open. REPEAT the self-test.
- L4 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between air compressor C1179-1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes : GO to L5.
No : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open. REPEAT the self-test.
- L5 CHECK CIRCUIT 538 (GY/RD) FOR VOLTAGE
- Key in ON position.
- Trigger the air compressor ON active command.
- Measure the voltage between air compressor C1179-2, circuit 538 (PK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes : INSTALL a new air compressor. REFER to AIR SUSPENSION COMPRESSOR . REPEAT the self-test.
No : REPAIR circuit 538 (GY/RD) for an open. REPEAT the self-test.
