Removal And Installation

All vehicles 

  1. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
  2. Remove the ignition coil bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
  3. NOTE: When removing the ignition coils, a slight twisting motion will break the seal and ease removal.
  4. Remove the ignition coils.
  5. Early build vehicles (black coil boot) 

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage may occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
    NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
    NOTE: Refer to SPECIFICATIONS  for correct spark plug identification.
  6. Remove the spark plugs.
    • To install, tighten to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft).
  7. Late build vehicles (brown coil boot) 

    NOTE: Only use hand tools when removing or installing the spark plugs, or damage may occur to the cylinder head or spark plug.
    NOTE: Use compressed air to remove any foreign material from the spark plug well before removing the spark plugs.
    NOTE: Refer to the SPECIFICATIONS  for correct spark plug identification.
  8. Remove the spark plugs.
    • To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
  9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
    • Apply a light film of silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound to the inside of the coil boots before installation.
