Pinpoint Test Y: The Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Are Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- Y1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE DRL MODULE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: DRL Module C1030
- Measure the voltage between the DRL module C1030-2, circuit 932 (GY/WH), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to Y2.
- NO : VERIFY the battery junction box (BJB) fuse 3 (15A) is OK. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y2 CHECK CIRCUIT 294 (WH/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the DRL module C1030-3, circuit 294 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- YES : Go to Y3.
- NO : VERIFY the central junction box (CJB) fuse 6 (15A) is OK. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y3 CHECK CIRCUIT 13 (RD/BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Place the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMPS ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the DRL module C1030-1, circuit 13 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
NOTE: Make sure the multifunction switch is in the LOW BEAM position.- YES : Go to Y4.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y4 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the DRL module C1030-4, circuit 1205 (BK) (stripped chassis) or circuit 57 (BK) (except stripped chassis), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
- YES : Go to Y5.
- NO : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Y5 CHECK FOR CORRECT DRL MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect the DRL module connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the DRL module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- YES : INSTALL a new DRL module. REFER to Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Module .
- NO : The system is operating correctly. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
