Pinpoint Test K: The Power Seat Does Not Move Horizontally/Vertically - Passenger

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Lincoln MKX and 2007 Ford Edge. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
  1. K1 CHECK THE HORIZONTAL DIRECTION MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION 
    • Operate the passenger power seat forward and rearward.
    • Will the seat move horizontally? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K5.
    2. NO  : Go to  K2.
  2. K2 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT HORIZONTAL MOTOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    • Disconnect: Passenger seat side air bag C327
    • Disconnect: Passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202
    • Disconnect: Passenger Seat Horizontal Motor C332
    • WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
    • Connect the battery ground cable.

    • Measure the voltage between passenger seat horizontal motor C332-1, circuit CPS38 (GN/BU), harness side and C332-2, circuit CPS33 (WH), harness side, while pushing the passenger seat control switch forward and rearward.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the switch is pushed forward, greater than -10 volts when the switch is pushed rearward and 0 volt when the switch is in a rest position? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    2. NO  : Go to  K3.
  3. K3 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS38 (GN/BU) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C355

    • Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C355-6, circuit CPS38 (GN/BU), harness side and passenger seat horizontal motor C332-1, circuit CPS38 (GN/BU), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C355-6, circuit CPS38 (GN/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat horizontal motor and the passenger seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K4.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  4. K4 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS33 (WH) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C355-3, circuit CPS33 (WH), harness side and passenger seat horizontal motor C332-2, circuit CPS33 (WH), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C355-3, circuit CPS33 (WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat horizontal motor and the passenger seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  5. K5 DETERMINE SEAT TILTING FAILURE 
    • Determine seat tilting failure.
    • Can the seat be tilted forward or backward? 
    1. YES  : If only forward tilting operates, go to  K6.

      If only rear tilting operates, go to  K9.

    2. NO  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  6. K6 CHECK VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT REAR HEIGHT MOTOR 
    • Disconnect: Passenger Seat Rear Height Motor C3075

    • Measure the voltage between passenger seat rear height motor C3075-2, circuit CPS36 (YE/GY), harness side and C3075-1, circuit CPS37 (WH/BU), harness side, while depressing the rear tilt switch up and down.
    • Is the voltage greater than +10 volts when the rear tilt switch is pressed down, greater than -10 volts when the rear tilt switch is pressed up and 0 volt when the switch is in the rest position? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    2. NO  : Go to  K7.
  7. K7 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS36 (YE/GY) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C355

    • Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C355-5, circuit CPS36 (YE/GY), harness side and passenger seat rear height motor C3075-2, circuit CPS36 (YE/GY), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C355-5, circuit CPS36 (YE/GY), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat rear height motor and the passenger seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K8.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  8. K8 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS37 (WH/BU) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C355-7, circuit CPS37 (WH/BU), harness side and passenger seat rear height motor C3075-1, circuit CPS37 (WH/BU), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C355-7, circuit CPS37 (WH/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat rear height motor and the passenger seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  9. K9 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE PASSENGER SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR 
    • Disconnect: Passenger Seat Front Height Motor C3074

    • Measure the voltage between passenger seat front height motor C382-1, circuit CPS35 (VT/GN), harness side and C382-2, circuit CPS34 (GY/BU), while pushing the rear tilting switch up and down.
    • Is the voltage greater than +10 volts when the front tilt switch is pressed down, greater than -10 volts when the front tilt switch is pressed up and 0 volt when the switch is in the rest position? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat track assembly. REFER to Seat Track . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    2. NO  : Go to  K10.
  10. K10 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS34 (GY/BU) FOR AN OPEN AND SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Passenger Seat Control Switch C355

    • Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C355-1, circuit CPS34 (GY/BU), harness side and passenger seat front height motor C3074-2, circuit CPS34 (GY/BU), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C355-1, circuit CPS34 (GY/BU), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat front height motor and the passenger seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  K11.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

  11. K11 CHECK CIRCUIT CPS35 (VT/GN) FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure the resistance between passenger seat control switch C355-8, circuit CPS35 (VT/GN) harness side, and passenger seat front height motor C3074-1, circuit CPS35 (VT/GN), harness side; and between passenger seat control switch C355-8, circuit CPS35 (VT/GN), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the passenger seat front height motor and the passenger seat control switch, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the passenger seat control switch and ground? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new seat control switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch - Front . TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .

    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

      DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3202. CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C327.

      REPOWER the SRS. REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
