Pinpoint Test B: The Control Illumination Is Inoperative/Always On

  1. B1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE ILLUMINATION SOURCES 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
    • Monitor the illumination sources with the headlamp switch in the OFF position and then in the PARK position.
    • Does the control illumination operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : The system is OK.
    2. No  : GO to B2.
  2. B2 CHECK THE PARKING LAMPS OPERATION 
    • Monitor the parking lamps in the OFF position and in the PARK position.
    • Do the parking lamps operate correctly? 
    1. Yes  : If the control illumination is inoperative, GO to B3.

      If all the control illumination is always on, GO to  B7.

      If the audio unit, dual automatic temperature control (DATC), and transmission range selector lever are always on, GO to  B9.

      If the clock, power window switches, steering wheel control switches, and moonroof switch are always on, GO to  B10.

    2. No  : REFER to EXTERIOR LIGHTING to continue diagnosis of the parking lamps.
  3. B3 CHECK CIRCUIT 14 (BN) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Switch C205b.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
    • Measure the voltage between the dimmer switch C205b-6, circuit 14 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to B4.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. B4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the dimmer switch C205b-4, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : GO to B5.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. B5 CHECK CIRCUIT 235 (RD/BK) FOR VOLTAGE 
    • Connect: Dimmer Switch C205b.
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Module C2065a.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the PARK position.
    • Rotate the dimmer switch to the maximum brightness position.
    • Measure the voltage between the dimmer module C2065a-4, circuit 235 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. Yes  : GO to B6.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. B6 CHECK CIRCUIT 235 (RD/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Switch C205b.
    • Measure the resistance between the dimmer switch C205b-1, circuit 235 (RD/BK), harness side and the dimmer module C2065a-4, circuit 235 (RD/BK), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new dimmer switch. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. B7 CHECK CIRCUIT 235 (RD/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Switch C205b.
    • Measure the voltage between the dimmer switch C205b-1, circuit 235 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes  : GO to B8.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new dimmer switch. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. B8 CHECK THE DIMMER MODULE 
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Module C2065a.
    • Measure the voltage between the dimmer switch C205b-1, circuit 235 (RD/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes  : REPAIR circuit 235 (RD/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : INSTALL a new dimmer module. REFER to DIMMER MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
  9. B9 CHECK CIRCUIT 434 (LB/BK) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Module C2065a.
    • Observe the audio unit, DATC, and transmission range selector lever illumination.
    • Does the audio unit, DATC, and transmission range selector lever go out? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new dimmer module. REFER to DIMMER MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  10. B10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1011 (TN/OG) FOR SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Disconnect: Dimmer Module C2065a.
    • Observe the clock, power window switches, steering wheel control switches, and moon roof switch illumination.
    • Does the clock, power window switches, steering wheel switches and moonroof switch go out? 
    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new dimmer module. REFER to DIMMER MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
