Pinpoint Test Ab: The Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative
AB1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER POWER SUPPLY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220b.
- Key in ON position.
- Using the following table, measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground.INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, HARNESS SIDE AND GROUND VOLTAGE
Connect/Pin Circuit C220b-18 295 (LB/PK) C220a-1 3049 (BK/LG) C220a-7 489 (PK/BK) - Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to AB2.
NO
REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
AB2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GROUND CIRCUITS 1205 (BK) AND 1203 (BK/LB)
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster C220b-11, circuit 1205 (BK) harness side and ground and between the instrument cluster C220a-2, circuit 1203 (BL/LB), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to AB3.
NO
REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. Test the system for normal operation.
AB3 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- Corrosion
- Pushed-out pins
- Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
