Removal and Installation

    CAUTION: The brake pedal and the accelerator pedal must be in the same position when installing a new cable or a new pedal. The pedals must be in the all the way forward or all the way rearward position.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to GENERATORS & REGULATORS .
  2. CAUTION: Do not install the cruise control deactivation switch after detaching it from the brake pedal bracket. Always install a new unit in its place.

  3. Remove the stoplight switch self-lock pin and slide the stoplight switch, booster push rod and the bushing off the brake pedal pin.
  4. Remove the accelerator pedal-to-brake pedal cable.

  5. CAUTION: The booster pushrod must be installed with pushrod offset, if present, pointing downward.

  6. Turn the cruise control deactivation switch counterclockwise and detach it from the brake pedal bracket.
  7. Remove the bulkhead sound insulator.

  8. Remove the four brake pedal bracket nuts.

  9. Remove the brake pedal bracket bolts, and remove the brake pedal and bracket.

  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
