Section 850 (Engine - 5.4L (3V) - F250-F550 Super Duty): Removal: Engine

SPECIAL TOOLS

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING .
- Remove the hood.
- Remove the intake manifold. For additional information, refer to INTAKE MANIFOLD .
- Remove the cowl vent grille. For additional information, refer to COWL PANEL GRILLE .
- Remove the radiator. For additional information, refer to RADIATOR -- GASOLINE ENGINES .
- Remove the degas bottle. For additional information, refer to DEGAS BOTTLE .
- Remove the powertrain control module (PCM). For additional information, refer to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
- Remove the accessory drive belt.
- Drain the engine oil and remove and discard the oil filter.
- Disconnect the degas bottle coolant hose.
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors on the LH fender splash shield.
- Remove the 3 bolts and position the power steering pump assembly aside.
- Disconnect the generator wiring harness retainer from the RH cylinder head.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor and the A/C high pressure cut-off switch electrical connectors.
- Disconnect the generator wiring harness retainer from the RH cylinder head and position the harness aside.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor wiring harness retainer from the starter motor wiring harness.
- Disconnect the engine wiring harness retainer from the evaporative emissions (EVAP) canister purge valve bracket.
- Disconnect the EVAP tube quick connect couplings and the electrical connector from EVAP canister purge valve. For additional information, refer to QUICK CONNECT COUPLING .
- Remove the 3 nuts and remove the EVAP canister purge valve and bracket assembly.
- Disconnect the body wiring harness retainer from the degas bottle support bracket.
- Remove the 3 nuts and the degas bottle support bracket.
- Remove the 2 nuts and the air cleaner outlet tube support bracket.
- Disconnect the heater hose.
- Remove the clutch and pressure plate. For additional information, refer to CLUTCH DISC AND PRESSURE PLATE .
- Remove the starter. For additional information, refer to STARTER MOTOR .
- Remove the nut and position the transmission oil cooler lines and bracket aside.
- Remove the 2 bolts and the flexplate inspection cover.
- Remove the cylinder block opening cover.
- Remove the 4 torque converter-to-flexplate nuts.
- Discard the nuts.
- Remove the 5 transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Remove the nut, the ground cable and position the transmission fluid filler tube aside.
- If equipped, disconnect the block heater electrical connector.
- Remove the stud bolt and position the ground strap aside.
- Disconnect the engine oil temperature (EOT) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the nut and the starter wiring harness support bracket.
- Disconnect the crank shaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
- Disconnect the 2 heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connectors.
- Remove the 4 exhaust manifold flange nuts.
- Remove the 6 RH and LH motor mount nuts.
- Remove the upper 2 transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Install the special tool.
- Using a suitable floor crane, remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
