Instrument Panel: Installation

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage may result.
    CAUTION: To exchange a loose or damaged cowl top clip with a new clip, remove the metal insert and then carefully release the clip from the cowl. Do not pry on the clip or damage to cowl sheet metal may occur.
    NOTE: To install a new fastener, remove the metal insert from the cowl top clip and exchange it with the new fastener.
    If any portion of the cowl top clip falls into the cowl, use Clear Silicone Rubber F7AZ-19554-CA or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M4G92-A (in Canada CXC-96-A) to prevent the broken portion from rattling within the cowl.
    NOTE: Two technicians are required to carry out this step.
  1. Position the instrument panel.
    • Connect the EATC hose to the heater plenum.
  2. Install the instrument panel cowl top screws.

  3. Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly.
    1. Connect the electrical connectors (one each side).
    2. Install the instrument panel defroster opening grille assembly.

  4. Install the LH instrument panel support to cowl side bolts.

  5. Tighten the LH instrument panel support to cowl side captive bolt.

  6. Install the RH instrument panel support to cowl side nut.

  7. Install the ignition/shifter interlock cable into the bracket and the shifter interlock cam.

  8. Connect the antenna in-line connector.

  9. Install the RH cowl trim panel.

  10. Install the RH scuff plate.

  11. Connect the in-line electrical harness connector.

  12. Connect the vacuum harness connector.

  13. Install the RH instrument panel insulator.
    1. Position the RH instrument panel insulator.
    2. Install the pin-type retainers.
      • Install the courtesy lamp.

  14. Position the instrument panel dash brace.

  15. Install the instrument panel dash brace to instrument panel bolt.

  16. Install the steering column mounting support to instrument panel cowl brace bolts.

  17. Tighten the instrument panel dash brace nut.

  18. If equipped, connect the heated seat switch electrical connectors.

  19. Connect the LH outboard bulkhead electrical connector.
    1. Position the connector.
    2. Tighten the bolt.

  20. Connect the LH inboard bulkhead electrical connector.
    1. Position the connector.
    2. Tighten the bolt.

  21. Connect the parking brake release handle cable to the parking brake actuator.
    1. Install the cable to the parking brake actuator.
    2. Install the cable conduit to the parking brake actuator.

  22. Install the steering column; refer to COLUMN .
  23. If equipped, install the rear seat climate control duct sleeve.

  24. If equipped, install the mini console; refer to CONSOLE-MINI .
  25. If equipped, install the floor console; refer to CONSOLE-FLOOR .
  26. Install the passenger side air bag modules; refer to PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE .
