Test U: Cruise Control Indicator Never/Always On
- Test drive vehicle and observe speedometer operation and test cruise control operation. If speedometer and cruise control operate properly, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate properly, repair cruise control system concern. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM - LS article. If speedometer does not operate properly, perform TEST G: SPEEDOMETER INOPERATIVE .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS to ON, then OFF. Cruise control indicator should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If cruise control indicator operates as specified, go to next step. If cruise control indicator does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
- Proper cruise control signal is not being received from PCM. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous Powertrain Control Module (PCM) DTCs. Clear PCM DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform PCM self-test. If any PCM DTCs are retrieved, repair code related problems. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If no PCM DTCs are retrieved, problem may be intermittent or a module communication problem may exists between PCM and instrument cluster.
