Test Q: Malfunction Indicator Light Never/Always On

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS to ON, then OFF. Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If MIL operates as specified, repair powertrain control concern. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If MIL does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
