Test J: Charge System Warning Indicator Never/Always On

Check charging system operation. If charging system is operating properly, go to next step. If charging system is not operating properly, repair charging system as necessary. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS to ON, then OFF. Charging system indicator should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If charging system indicator operates as specified, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If charging system indicator does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
