Test AJ: Driver's Door Chime Sounds With Key Removed From Ignition & Headlights Off

  1. Ensure headlights are off. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove key from ignition. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID IGN_KEY. If PID displays IN, go to next step. If PID does not display IN, replace instrument cluster.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster 22-pin harness connector C220a. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220a terminal No. 21 (Red/White wire). See Figure . If voltage exists, go to next step. If voltage does not exist, perform TEST AL: KEY-IN-IGNITION CHIME NOT OPERATING PROPERLY  .
  3. Check Red/White wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220a terminal No. 21 and ignition switch harness connector terminal No. 8 for short to voltage. If problem exists, repair as necessary. If problem does not exist, replace ignition switch.
