Test An: Air Bag Warning Chime Not Operating Properly
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record Restraint Control Module (RCM) DTCs. Clear RCM DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform RCM self-test. If no RCM DTCs exist, go to next step. - Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect RCM 26-pin harness connector C310a. Disconnect instrument cluster 20-pin harness connector C220b. Measure resistance between ground and RCM harness connector C310a terminal No. 26 (White/Black wire). See Fig 1 . If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Black wire between RCM and instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and RCM harness connector C310a terminal No. 26 (White/Black wire). If voltage does not exist, go to next step. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in White/Black wire between RCM and instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance in White/Black wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 14 and RCM harness connector C310a terminal No. 26. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Black wire between RCM and instrument cluster.
