Test T: Transmission Range Indicator Never On (5 Passenger With Redundant Park Switch Only) (DTC U1059)

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Perform Virtual Image Cluster (VIC) self-test. If DTC U1059 is not present, go to next step. If DTC U1059 is retrieved, repair transmission range switch circuit. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  2. Place shift lever in Park. Select VIC active command INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LAMP CONTROL. Trigger PRNDL LAMP. Scroll and select PARK then trigger ON. If PARK indicator does not turn on, go to next step. If PARK indicator turns on, go to step  6 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect VIC harness connector C256. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 14 (Orange/White wire) at VIC harness connector C256. See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, check PARK indicator light bulb and replace as necessary. If light bulb is okay, replace VIC. See VIRTUAL IMAGE CLUSTER (VIC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect console shift illumination light harness connector C334. Measure resistance of Orange/White wire between console shift illumination light harness connector C334 and terminal No. 14 at VIC harness connector C256. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/White wire.
  5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and Red/Black wire terminal at console shift illumination light harness connector C334. If battery voltage exists, replace redundant park switch. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Red/Black wire.
  6. Using NGS tester, select VIC active command INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LAMP CONTROL. Trigger PRNDL LAMP. Scroll and select each individual range. If each range indicator illuminates, system is okay at this time. If each range indicator does not illuminate, replace light bulb in question.
