Test G: Speedometer Inaccurate

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Perform data link diagnostics. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - CONTINENTAL article. If vehicle passes, go to next step. If vehicle does not pass, repair module communication concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - CONTINENTAL article.
  2. Test drive vehicle above 5 MPH. Using NGS tester, monitor Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module speed signal. Compare speed indicated on speedometer with speed indicated on NGS tester. If speed indications agree, repair vehicle speed signal concern. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If speed indications do not agree, replace Virtual Image Cluster (VIC). See VIRTUAL IMAGE CLUSTER (VIC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
