Test AK: Dash Illumination Control Inoperative (DTC B1582 & B1586)

  1. Place gear selector in Park. Ensure dimmer switch is not stuck in up or down position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using NGS tester, retrieve and document continuous DTCs. Clear DTCs. Perform Lighting Control Module (LCM) self-test. If neither DTC B1582 or B1586 are not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1582 or B1586 is retrieved, replace LCM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove and inspect fuse No. 1 (10-amp) from central junction box. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, go to step  5 .
  3. Measure voltage at input side of fuse No. 1 in central junction box. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Tan wire between central junction box and battery junction box.
  4. Install fuse No. 1 in central junction box. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Disconnect LCM harness connector C207. Measure voltage at terminal No. 16 (Gray/Light Blue wire) at LCM harness connector C207. See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to step  7 . If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Gray/Light Blue wire.
  5. Ensure fuse No. 1 in central junction box is still removed. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect LCM harness connector C207. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 16 (Gray/Light Blue wire) at LCM harness connector C207. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Gray/Light Blue wire.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Light Blue/Red wire) at LCM harness connector C207. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace LCM. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue/Red wire. Replace fuse No. 1 (10-amp) in central junction box.
  7. Connect a fused 10-amp jumper wire between terminals No. 2 (Light Blue/Red wire) and 16 (Gray/Light Blue wire) at LCM harness connector C207. If dash lights illuminate, replace LCM. If dash lights do not illuminate, repair open in Light Blue/Red wire.
