Removal & Installation (Windstar)

Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Disconnect both battery cables. Wait one minute to deplete air bag power supply. Remove multi-function switch.
On 2000 models, remove 2 screws and unclip instrument panel steering column opening cover. Remove 3 screws, and remove instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
On all models, remove retaining screw. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector, and position aside. Remove transmission range indicator cable from steering column actuator housing.
Remove and discard steering column shaft pinch bolt, and disconnect coupler. Disconnect shift cable from steering column shift tube lever. Disconnect shift cable from steering column lower mounting bracket by pushing tab on cable in and sliding cable off bracket. While supporting steering column, remove and discard 4 retaining nuts, and remove steering column.
To install steering column, reverse removal procedure. Tighten all nuts and bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure all components operate properly.
