Test Y: Air Bag Indicator Never On
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous Restraint Control Module (RCM) DTCs. Clear RCM DTCs. Using NGS tester, perform RCM self-test. If no RCM DTCs are not retrieved, go to next step. If any RCM DTCs are retrieved, repair air bag system concern. For information on air bag DIAGNOSIS & TESTING, see lemon-25(R) AIR BAG SERVICE & REPAIR MANUAL, DOMESTIC & IMPORTED MODELS.
- Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS ON, then OFF. Air bag indicator should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If air bag indicator operate as specified, problem may be intermittent or a module communication problem may exists between RCM and instrument cluster. For module communications concerns, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - LS article. If air bag indicator does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
