Test V: Transmission Range Indicator Never/Always On

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command DISPLAY SEGMENT CONTROL II. Trigger SEGMENTS ON, then OFF. All transmission range segments should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If transmission range segments operate as specified, proper transmission range signal is not being received from PCM over bus. See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. If transmission range segments do not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
