Test Ag: Low Washer Display Never/Always On

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS ON, then OFF. Low washer display should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If low washer display operates as specified, go to next step. If low washer display does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect washer fluid level switch harness connector C138. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor Front Electronic Module (FEM) PID WFLUID. Using a fused jumper wire, ground terminal No. 2 (White/Blue wire) at washer fluid level switch harness connector. With jumper wire connected, PID should display ON. Without jumper wire connected, PID should display OFF. If PID displays as specified, go to next step. If PID does not display as specified and jumper wire fuse blows, go to step  5 . If PID does not display as specified and jumper wire fuse does not blow, exit PID and go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black/Orange wire) at washer fluid level switch harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace washer fluid level switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Orange wire between washer fluid level switch and ground.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201b. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (White/Blue wire) at washer fluid level switch harness connector. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace FEM. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Blue wire between washer fluid level switch and FEM.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201b. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage at terminal No. 15 (White/Blue wire) at FEM harness connector C201b. See Figure . If voltage does not exist, replace FEM. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in White/Blue wire between washer fluid level switch and FEM.
