Test AK: Seat Belt Warning Chime Not Operating Properly
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID D_SBELT while buckling and unbuckling driver's seat belt. With seat belt buckled, PID should display IN. Without seat belt buckled, PID should display OUT. If PID only displays OUT, go to next step. If PID only displays IN, go to step 5 . If PID displays as described, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's seat belt switch harness connector C381. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 2 (Black wire) at driver's seat belt switch harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between driver's seat belt switch and ground.
- Using a fused jumper wire, ground terminal No. 1 (White/Black wire) at driver's seat belt switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID D_SBELT. If PID displays OUT, go to next step. If PID does not display OUT, replace driver's seat belt switch.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220a. Measure resistance in White/Black wire between terminal No. 1 at driver's seat belt switch harness connector and terminal No. 18 (White/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C220a. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Black wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's seat belt switch harness connector C381. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID D_SBELT. If PID displays IN, go to next step. If PID does not display IN, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220a. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 18 (White/Black wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C220a. See Figure . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Black wire between instrument cluster and driver's seat belt switch. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster.
