Test K: Brake Warning Indicator Always On
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS ON, then OFF. BRAKE warning indicator should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If BRAKE warning indicator operates as specified, go to next step. If BRAKE warning indicator does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch harness connector C124. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE warning indicator is on, go to next step. If BRAKE warning indicator is not on, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect parking brake switch harness connector C306. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If BRAKE warning indicator is on, go to next step. If BRAKE warning indicator is not on, replace parking brake switch.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using NGS tester, monitor Front Electronic Module (FEM) PID FLUID_1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminals No. 1 (White/Red wire) and No. 2 (Black/Blue wire) at brake fluid level switch harness connector. With jumper wire connected, PID should display ON. Without jumper wire connected, PID should display OFF. If PID displays as specified, remove jumper wire and go to next step. If PID does not display as specified, remove jumper wire and go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201f. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and Black/Green wire terminal at parking brake switch harness connector. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace FEM. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Green wire between parking brake switch and FEM.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201c. Measure between ground and terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire) at brake fluid level switch harness connector. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Red wire between brake fluid level switch and FEM. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace FEM.
