Test F: Oil Pressure Indicator Never/Always On

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, select instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIMES. Trigger ALL LAMPS ON, then OFF. Oil pressure indicator should illuminate when triggered ON and should not illuminate when triggered OFF. If oil pressure indicator operates as specified, go to next step. If oil pressure indicator does not operate as specified, replace instrument cluster.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect engine oil pressure switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor Front Electronic Module (FEM) PID OILWRN. Using a fused jumper wire, ground terminal No. 1 (White/Green wire) at engine oil pressure switch harness connector. With jumper wire connected, PID should display ON. Without jumper wire connected, PID should display OFF. If PID displays as specified, replace engine oil pressure switch. If PID does not display as specified and jumper wire fuse did not blow, remove jumper wire and go to next step. If PID does not display as specified and jumper wire fuse blows, remove jumper wire and go to step  5 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201c. Measure resistance in White/Green wire between terminal No. 1 at engine oil pressure switch harness connector and terminal No. 9 at FEM harness connector C201c. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Green wire.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (White/Green wire) at FEM harness connector C201c. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace FEM. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Green wire between engine oil pressure switch and FEM.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect FEM harness connector C201c. Measure voltage at terminal No. 9 (White/Green wire) at FEM harness connector C201c. See Figure . If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in White/Green wire between engine oil pressure switch and FEM. If voltage does not exist, replace FEM.
