Test Z: Seat Belt Warning Chime Inoperative

  1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor Lighting Control Module (LCM) PID D_SBELT while buckling and unbuckling driver's seat belt. If PID agrees with seat belt position, go to step  7 . If PID always indicates OUT, go to next step. If PID always indicates IN, go to step  4 .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect driver's seat belt switch harness connector C308. Using NGS tester, monitor LCM PID D_SBELT. If PID indicates OUT, go to next step. If PID does not indicate OUT, replace driver's seat belt switch.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect LCM harness connector C208. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 4 (Brown/Light Blue wire) at LCM harness connector C208. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to step  7 . If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Brown/Light Blue wire.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect driver's seat belt switch harness connector C308. Using a fused jumper wire, ground Brown/Light Blue wire terminal at driver's seat belt switch harness connector C308. Using NGS tester, monitor LCM PID D_SBELT. If PID indicates IN, go to next step. If PID does not indicate IN, go to step  6 .
  5. Disconnect LCM harness connector C208. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Blue wire between driver's seat belt switch harness connector C308 and terminal No. 4 at LCM harness connector C208. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  7 . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Light Blue wire.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and Black wire terminal at driver's seat belt switch harness connector C308. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace driver's seat belt switch. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire.
  7. Disconnect all LCM harness connectors. Inspect for corrosion and pushed out pins. Reconnect all LCM harness connectors, ensuring they are connected correctly. Operate system to verify if concern is still present. If concern is still present, replace LCM. If concern is not present, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear DTCs and repeat LCM self-test.
