Test B: No Communication With Instrument Cluster

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove fuses No. 5 (10-amp), No. 26 (10-amp) and No. 28 (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse box. Check fuses. If fuses are okay, install fuses and go to next step. If any fuse is blown, replace fuse and retest system. If fuse blows again, check for short to ground and repair as necessary. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connectors C255 and C256. Measure voltage at appropriate terminals at instrument cluster harness connector indicated, with key in specified position. See POWER TO INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  table. See Figure . If all voltage measurements are greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If any voltage measurement is 10 volts or less, repair open in appropriate circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Measure resistance between ground and appropriate instrument cluster harness connector terminals. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GROUNDS  table. If all resistance readings are 5 ohms or less, repair module communication concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - CONTINENTAL article. If any resistance reading is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
