Test L: Brake Warning Never/Always On
- Ensure brake fluid reservoir is full and parking brake is released. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning light is on, go to next step. If brake warning light is not on, go to step 6 .
- Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor LCM PID PARK_SW while applying parking brake. If PID does not agree with parking brake position, go to next step. If PID agrees with parking brake position, repair parking brake signal from LCM as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect parking brake switch harness connector C246. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning light is on, go to next step. If warning light is not on, replace parking brake switch.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect brake fluid level switch harness connector C182. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning light is on, go to next step. If warning light is not on, replace brake fluid level switch.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C255. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 25 (Violet/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C255. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Violet/White wire.
- Engage parking brake. If brake warning light is not on, go to next step. If brake warning light is on, system is okay at this time.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect parking brake switch connector harness connector C246. Using a fused jumper wire, ground Violet/White wire terminal at parking brake switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning light is not on, go to next step. If warning light is on, replace parking brake switch.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C255. Measure resistance between Light Green/Red wire terminal at parking brake switch harness connector C246 and terminal No. 25 (Violet/White wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C255. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster.
- Disconnect brake fluid level switch harness connector C182. Measure resistance between Violet/White wire terminal and Light Green/Red wire terminal at brake fluid level switch (component side). If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, replace brake fluid level switch. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair open in Violet/White wire between instrument cluster and brake fluid level switch and/or open in Light green/Red wire between parking brake switch and brake fluid level switch.
