Test F: Oil Pressure Warning Never/Always On
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If oil pressure warning light is not on, go to next step. If oil pressure warning light is on, go to step 3 .
- Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector C1020. Using a fused jumper wire, ground White/Red wire terminal at oil pressure switch harness connector C1020. If oil pressure warning light does not come on, go to next step. If oil pressure warning light comes on, replace oil pressure switch.
- Start engine. If oil pressure warning light does not go through prove-out and go out, go to next step. If oil pressure warning light goes through prove-out and goes out, system is okay at this time.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector C1020. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If oil pressure warning light goes out, go to next step. If oil pressure warning light remains on, go to step 6 .
- Connect external oil pressure gauge. Start and idle engine. If oil pressure is greater than 5 psi (.35 kg/cm2 ), go to next step. If oil pressure is 5 psi (.35 kg/cm2 ) or less, repair engine oiling concern. See appropriate article in ENGINES.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C255. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 24 (White/Red wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C255. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Red wire.
- Measure resistance in White/Red wire between terminal No. 24 at instrument cluster connector C255 and oil pressure switch harness connector C1020. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Red wire.
