Tachometer Not Reflecting Correct Engine Speed

  1. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Retrieve HEIC continuous and self-test DTCs. If DTC U1027 is present, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If DTC U1027 is not present, go to next step.
  2. Using NGS tester, select HEIC active command TACHOMETER CONTROL. Trigger TACHOMETER ON. Adjust NGS tester to command TACHOMETER reads 50 percent and observe tachometer reading. Adjust NGS tester to command TACHOMETER reads 100 percent and observe tachometer reading. Tachometer needle should start at zero, move to about half at 50 percent and upper limit at 100 percent. If tachometer performs as specified, tachometer is operating properly. Check engine operating system for other possible problems. See appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If tachometer does not perform as specified, repair HEIC and retest system.
