Low Oil Pressure Warning Never/Always On
- Turn ignition on and observe low oil pressure warning indicator. See Figure . If indicator is off, go to step 6). If indicator is on, go to next step.
- Start engine and observe low oil pressure warning indicator. If indicator is on, go to next step. If indicator is off, low oil pressure warning indicator is operating properly. Check engine for other possible intermittent problems.
- Manually check engine oil pressure. If engine oil pressure is within specification, go to next step. If engine oil pressure is not within specification, repair engine oiling system as necessary.
- Ensure ignition is off. Connect ohmmeter between ground and engine oil pressure switch terminal (component side). Note ohmmeter reading. Start engine and allow to idle. Note ohmmeter reading. If resistance is 5 ohms or less with engine off and 500 ohms or more with engine idling, leave oil pressure switch disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace engine oil pressure switch.
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect HEIC connector C293. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 27 (White/Red wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in White/Red wire and retest system. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair HEIC and retest system.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect engine oil pressure switch connector. Measure resistance between ground and oil pressure switch terminal (component side). Note ohmmeter reading. Start engine and allow to idle. Note ohmmeter reading. If resistance is 5 ohms or less with engine off and 500 ohms or more with engine idling, leave oil pressure switch disconnected and go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace engine oil pressure switch and retest system.
- Ensure ignition is off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect HEIC connector C293. See Figure . Measure resistance of White/Red wire between HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 27 and oil pressure switch connector White/Red wire. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Red wire and retest system.
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 24 (Red/Yellow wire). If battery voltage is present, repair HEIC and retest system. If battery voltage is not present, repair open in Red/Yellow wire between HEIC connector and fuse No. 5 and retest system.
