High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Perform Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) control module self-test. If DTC B1509 is retrieved, see appropriate AUTOLAMP SYSTEM article. If DTC B1509 is not retrieved, go to next step.
  2. Turn headlights on. Place multifunction switch in high beam position. If high beam indicator is on, system is okay. If high beam indicator is off, go to next step.
  3. Using NGS tester, select SCIL modue active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME. Trigger HIGH BEAM ON. If high beam indicator is on, go to step 7). If high beam indicator is off, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect HEIC connector C293. See Figure . Turn ignition on. Using NGS tester, select SCIL modue active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME. Trigger HIGH BEAM ON. Measure voltage between ground and HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 23 (Brown wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, repair HEIC and retest system. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) control module connector C287. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and SCIL control module connector C287 terminal No. 3 (Brown wire). If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair open in Brown wire.
  6. Measure resistance of Brown wire between SCIL control module connector C287 terminal No. 3 and HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 23. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace SCIL control module and retest system. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Brown wire between SCIL control module and HEIC.
  7. Turn headlights on. Place multifunction switch in high beam position. If high beam indicator is on, replace SCIL control module. If high beam indicator is off, see appropriate HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS wiring diagram in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in the WIRING DIAGRAMS section.
