Engine Coolant Temperature Reads Inaccurately

  1. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Retrieve HEIC continuous and self-test DTCs. If DTC U1073 is present, see appropriate TESTS W/CODES article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section. If DTC U1073 is not present, go to next step.
  2. Using NGS tester, select HEIC active command ENGINE COOLANT CONTROL. Trigger ENGINE COOLANT ON. Adjust NGS tester to command ENGINE COOLANT reads 50 percent and observe temperature gauge. Adjust NGS tester to command ENGINE COOLANT reads 100 percent and observe temperature gauge. Temperature gauge needle should start at cold, move to about half at 50 percent and full hot at 100 percent. If temperature gauge performs as specified, temperature gauge is operating properly. Check engine cooling system for other possible problems. If temperature gauge does not perform as specified, repair HEIC and retest system.
