Cruise Control Indicator Never/Always On

  1. Turn ignition on and observe CRUISE indicator. See Figure . If CRUISE indicator is always on, go to step 4). If CRUISE indicator is never on, go to next step.
  2. Test drive vehicle and operate cruise control system. If cruise control sets and operates properly, go to next step. If cruise control does not operate properly, diagnose cruise control system. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS article.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect cruise control module 10-pin connector C103. Cruise control module is located on left side of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper between ground and cruise control module connector C103 terminal No. 1 (Orange/Yellow wire). See Fig 1 . Observe CRUISE indicator. If CRUISE indicator is not on, remove jumper wire and go to step 5). If CRUISE indicator is on, replace cruise control module and retest system.
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect HEIC connector C293. See Figure . Disconnect cruise control module 10-pin connector C103. Cruise control module is located on left side of engine compartment. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance of Orange/Yellow wire between HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 25 and cruise control module connector C103 terminal No. 1. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair HEIC and retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/Yellow wire between HEIC and cruise control module connector and retest system.
  5. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect cruise control module 10-pin connector. Turn ignition on and observe CRUISE indicator. If CRUISE indicator is on, go to next step. If CRUISE indicator is off, replace cruise control module and retest system.
  6. Ensure ignition is off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect HEIC connector C293. See Figure . Measure resistance between ground and HEIC connector C293 terminal No. 25 (Orange/Yellow wire). If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Orange/Yellow wire and retest system. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, repair HEIC and retest system.
