DTC: 80, 85, 90 Or 95: Spring Solenoid Valves

  1. Check Spring Solenoid Connector

Turn air suspension off. Disconnect spring solenoid connectors. Air spring solenoids are located on each respective air spring. Inspect terminals for damage, corrosion or pushed out pins etc. Ensure spring solenoid connectors seat properly and not damaged. Repair or replace any worn or damaged connector and/or solenoid. Check system operation. If connectors and/or solenoids are okay, go to next step.
  2. Check For Open Spring Solenoid

Check resistance across connector terminals on air spring solenoid. If resistance is 14-18 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 14-18 ohms, replace air spring solenoid. Check system operation.
  3. Check For Open Ground Circuit

Check continuity between ground and Black wire (Gray wire on 1996 models) at air spring solenoid harness connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open Black wire (Gray wire on 1996 models). Check system operation.
  4. Check Light Green/Orange Wire For Short To Power

Turn air suspension off. Disconnect suspect spring solenoid connector. Disconnect control module connector C205 (Gray). See Figure. Measure voltage between suspect circuit at C205 and ground. See SOLENOID TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If reading is zero volts, go to next step. If reading is not zero volts, locate and repair short to battery and repeat Auto Test.
    SOLENOID TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION

    Application Terminal No. (Wire Color)
Left Front Solenoid 14 (Light Green/Orange)
Left Rear Solenoid 16 (Purple/Light Green)
    Right Front Solenoid 15 (Orange/Red)
Right Rear Solenoid 17 (Light Blue/Black).
  5. Check Solenoid Circuits For Short To Ground

Disconnect control module connector C205 (Gray). Measure resistance between ground and suspect circuit at C205. See SOLENOID TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in suspect circuit. Check system operation. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
  6. Check Solenoid Circuits For Open

Disconnect control module connector C205. Check continuity between suspect circuit at C205 and air spring solenoid harness connector. See SOLENOID TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open suspect circuit. Check system operation.
  7. Test Control Module Output To Solenoid

Reconnect control module connectors. Turn air suspension off. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, backprobe between suspect pin of control module harness connector C205 and ground. See SOLENOID TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION  table. Perform pump or vent Function Test for suspect solenoid. See NGS FUNCTION TEST INDEX  table. If an output voltage pulse is measured during test, replace spring solenoid and repeat Auto Test. If no output voltage is measured, replace control module and repeat Auto Test.
