EVO Actuator Operation

Control module receives signals from vehicle speed and steering sensors. Control module varies current to EVO actuator based on these signals. At low vehicle speeds and high steering wheel rotation rates, current to EVO actuator is low. When vehicle speed increases, current to EVO actuator increases. This reduces power steering pump flow to steering system, which reduces steering assist, resulting in increased steering effort.

  1. Check EVO Actuator

Disconnect EVO actuator 2-pin harness connector located near engine oil filter. See Figure. Measure resistance between EVO actuator terminals. If resistance is not 8-16 ohms, replace EVO actuator and repeat Auto Test. If resistance is 8-16 ohms, go to next step.
  2. Check For Short To Battery

Disconnect EVO actuator and air suspension/EVO steering control module connector C205 (Gray). See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and C205 pin No. 31 (Light Blue wire) and No. 19 (Yellow/Light Green wire). If any voltage exists for either measurement, locate and repair short to battery in Light Blue wire or Yellow/Light Green wire. If voltage does not exist on both measurements, go to next step.
  3. Check For Short To Ground

Disconnect EVO actuator and control module connector C205. Check continuity between ground and C205 pin No. 31 (Light Blue wire) and No. 19 (Yellow/Light Green wire) at control module Gray connector. If continuity exists, locate and repair short to ground in Light Blue wire or Yellow/Light Green wire. Repeat Auto Test. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Check For Short Between Yellow/Light Green & Light Blue Wires

Disconnect EVO actuator and control module connector C205. Check for continuity between C205 pin No. 19 (Yellow/Light Green wire) and No. 31 (Light Blue wire). If continuity exists, locate and repair short between circuits and repeat Auto Test. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  5. Check For Open Circuit

Disconnect EVO actuator and control module connectors C205. Measure resistance of Light Blue wire between C205 pin No. 31 and EVO actuator connector. See Figure. Also, check for continuity of Yellow/Light Green wire between C205 pin No. 19 and EVO actuator connector. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, locate and repair open Light Blue wire or Yellow/Light Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check connectors for corrosion. If connector terminals are okay, replace control module. Repeat Auto Test.
