Door Switch Operation

On 1996 models, air suspension/EVO steering control module senses door open and closed signal from door switches through Dark Blue/Orange wire circuit at connector C204 pin No. 5. When a door is opened, switch closes, applying battery voltage to C204 pin No. 5. Door signal prevents control module from lowering vehicle while doors are open. Orange wire circuit to door switches is powered through fuse No. 6 (15-amp) in interior fuse panel.

  1. Cycle Door Switches

Disconnect control module connector C204. See Figure. Connect voltmeter between C204 pin No. 5 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) and ground. Open and close each door. If battery voltage exists with both doors closed, leave voltmeter connected and go to next step. If voltage is zero volts with doors closed and battery voltage with doors open, check connectors for corrosion. If connectors are okay, replace control module and repeat Auto Test. See AUTO TEST  under TESTING & DIAGNOSIS.
  2. Using results from step  1, if battery voltage exists with both doors closed, go to step 5). If battery voltage does not exist with both doors closed, go to next step.
  3. Using results from step  1, if battery exists with one door open and zero volts with other door open, go to step  6, otherwise go to next step.
  4. Using results from step  1, if battery exists with both doors open and courtesy lights are not on, go to step  6. If any other results, return to step  1.
  5. Check Circuits No. 24 & 159 For Short To Battery

Remove door switches from door jambs, and disconnect connectors from switches. Measure voltage between ground and circuit No. 24 (Dark Blue/Orange wire) at left door switch connector. Also, measure voltage between ground and circuit No. 159 (Red/Pink wire) at right door switch connector. If both readings are zero volts, check continuity at switches. Replace damaged switch(es) and go to step  7. If either reading is more than zero volts, repair short to battery in Dark Blue/Orange wire or Red/Pink wire. Repeat Auto Test.
  6. Check Suspect Door Circuit

Remove suspect door switch from door jamb, and disconnect door switch connector. Measure voltage between ground and Orange wire at switch connector. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, repair open Orange wire. Check system operation.
  7. Check Circuits No. 24 & 159 For Open

Connect ohmmeter positive lead to Dark Blue/Orange wire (right door) or Red/Pink wire (left door) at door switch connectors. Connect negative lead to control module connector C204 (Black) pin No. 24 (Dark Blue/Orange wire). If continuity exists, replace door switch and repeat Auto Test. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Blue/Orange wire or Red/Pink wire between door switch connector and control module. Repeat Auto Test.
