Knuckle/Hub Assembly (Rear): Removal

CAUTION: Hub nut retainers, inboard CV joint stub shaft circlip and differential oil seal are not reusable. DO NOT begin this removal procedure unless these replacement parts are available.
  1. Using 36-mm socket, remove hub nut and loosen wheel lug nuts. Turn air suspension off. Raise vehicle. See REPAIR PRECAUTIONS . Remove rear tire and wheel assemblies. Slide parking brake cable adjusting clip downward until cable is free. Remove parking brake cable from brake caliper. Remove upper and lower caliper retaining bolts. Remove caliper assembly from rotor, and wire to brakeline junction bracket.
  2. Remove upper control arm bolt and nut, and wire control arm to upper shock. When upper control arm bolt is removed from knuckle, lower arm bushings will return to a relaxed position. Mark position of lower control arm in relation to knuckle, with lower bushings in their relaxed position. Using Hub Remover/Replacer (T81P-1104-C), Metric Hub Remover/Adapter (T83P-1104-BH1) and Hub Bearing Service Adapter (T86P-1104-A1), free axle shaft from hub.
  3. Using Torx(R) Holding Tool (T93P-5494-A), hold bolt and remove lower rear and front nuts. Push CV joint stub shaft inboard through hub, and remove knuckle front lower bolt. Remove rear bolt and save washers (one for each lower control arm bolt), and remove knuckle assembly. Wire axle shaft to body to protect CV boot.
