Upper Mount & Bearing Assembly (Front): Removal

  1. Remove spring and strut assembly. See SPRING & STRUT ASSEMBLY (FRONT)  . Position spring and strut assembly vertically so that knurled section of strut tube is secured in a soft jawed vise. On 1997 models, compress front coil spring until bearing seat rotates freely.
CAUTION: DO NOT  use impact tool to remove flange nut. Damage to air spring piston locking tab will be sheared off and air spring assembly will have to be replaced.
WARNING: On 1997 models, DO NOT  remove flange not until coil spring has been compressed. Personal injury may result.
  2. Position Oxygen Sensor Wrench (T94P-9472-A) onto flange nut. Hold strut piston rod with 10 mm wrench, while removing flange nut. Remove rebound cap, rebound plate and top bearing washer.
CAUTION: Roll air sleeve onto piston to minimize upward movement of air spring assembly. Over-extension of air spring may result in internal "O"-ring misalignment, causing air leaks of outer joint seal during reassembly. To ensure a good joint seal during reassembly, DO NOT  remove seal ring plate, "O" ring or isolator (unless damaged).
  3. Remove upper mount assembly. DO NOT  remove any other components (unless damaged). On 1996 model, air spring removal is not necessary to service upper mount assembly.
