System Test G: Oil Pressure Warning Never/Always On

  1. Check Oil Pressure Warning Indicator  - Start engine. If warning light is not on, go to next step. If warning light is on, go to step 3).
  2. Check Warning Indicator Operation  - Stop engine. Turn ignition on. If warning light is not on, go to step 5). If warning light is on, no problem is indicated at this time.
  3. Check Oil Pressure  - Connect external oil pressure gauge. Start and idle engine. If oil pressure is greater than 5 psi (.35 KgCm(2)), go to next step. If oil pressure is not as specified, repair engine.
  4. Start engine. Unplug connector from oil pressure switch located at lower center of engine. If oil pressure warning light goes out, replace oil pressure switch, then retest system. If oil pressure warning light remains on, repair short to ground on White/Red wire between oil pressure switch and terminal No. 24 at EIC.
  5. Check Oil Pressure Switch  - Unplug connector from oil pressure switch located at lower center of engine. Connect jumper between White/Red wire at harness connector and ground. If warning light does not come on, go to next step. If warning light comes on, replace oil pressure switch.
  6. Remove EIC. See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test White/Red wire for continuity between EIC harness connector C255 terminal No. 24 and oil pressure switch. Repair as necessary. If wire is okay, replace EIC, then retest system.
