Test WA, Ground Input Warning Never Or Always Comes On

  1. Verifying Condition: Verify system for which warning comes on is operating correctly. If system is not operating correctly, repair system as necessary. If system is operating correctly, proceed to step 2). If check engine or air bag warning is problem area, proceed to step 4).
NOTE: Charge warning is always on with ignition on and engine off.
  2. Observing Prove-Out Mode: Turn ignition on. Note all display segments come on, momentarily turn off and return to normal operation. This is prove-out mode. Ground input warning will occur on specified warning systems. See GROUND INPUT WARNING  table.
    GROUND INPUT WARNING

    (1) Wire color may be PPL/WHT or TAN/LT GRN.
    (2) Wire color may be LT GRN/RED or BLK/PNK.
    (3) Wire color may be PNK/LT GRN or TAN/RED.
  3. If prove-out mode operates correctly, proceed to step 4). If prove-out mode does not operate correctly, replace instrument cluster. Install door pillar sticker to indicate instrument cluster has been replaced.
  4. Observing Condition: Turn ignition on, and observe warning operation. If warning is always on, proceed to step 5). If warning is always off, proceed to step 8).
  5. Checking Switch: Turn ignition off. This resets warning. Disconnect electrical connector from necessary switch/sensor for warning. Turn ignition on, and note if warning operates. If warning operates, proceed to step 6). If warning does not operate, replace switch/sensor.
  6. Checking Wiring: Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER R & I  . Check continuity between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange or Black/Light Blue wire) and appropriate connector pin number for proper warning circuit. See GROUND INPUT WARNING  table. No continuity should exist on proper circuit.
  7. If no continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. Install door pillar sticker to indicate instrument cluster has been replaced. If continuity exists, repair short in wiring circuit.
  8. Checking Switch: Turn ignition off. Disconnect electrical connector from necessary switch/sensor for warning. Connect jumper wire from electrical connector on switch/sensor to ground. Turn ignition on, and note if warning operates.
  9. If warning operates, service switch/sensor. If warning does not operate, leave jumper wire connected, and proceed to step 10).
  10. Checking Wiring: With jumper wire connected from electrical connector on switch/sensor to ground, turn ignition switch off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER R & I  .
  11. Check continuity between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange or Black/Light Blue wire) and appropriate connector pin number for proper warning circuit. See GROUND INPUT WARNING  table. Continuity should exist on proper circuit.
  12. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. Install door pillar sticker to indicate instrument cluster has been replaced. If no continuity exists, repair open in wiring circuit.
