Removal (5.0L & 5.0L HO)

Disconnect negative battery cable and drain cooling system. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect fuel lines using Spring Lock Coupling (D87-9280-A for 3/8"; D87L-9280-B for 1/2"). Mark and disconnect necessary linkage and cables (as equipped). Mark and disconnect vacuum hoses at intake manifold.
Remove distributor cap and spark plug wires as an assembly. Mark and remove distributor. Remove coolant hoses as necessary. Mark and disconnect electrical connectors as necessary. Disconnect fuel injector wiring harness. Remove upper intake manifold cover plate. Remove 6 upper intake manifold bolts.
Remove upper intake manifold. See Fig 1. Remove accessory brackets attached to lower intake manifold. Remove heater tube assembly from lower intake manifold. Remove lower intake manifold bolts evenly. Remove lower intake manifold. Remove gaskets and seals.
