Cylinder Head: Overview

  1. Clean gasket mating surfaces. Clean carbon from combustion chambers. Use care not to damage surfaces. Check cylinder head for cracks and warpage. Inspect gasket surface for burrs and nicks.
  2. If warpage exceeds .003" (.08 mm) in a 6" (152 mm) area, machine surface cylinder head. Do not machine surface more than .010" (.25 mm) from the original cylinder head gasket surface. Replace cylinder head as necessary.
