Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

1. Disconnect negative battery cable and drain cooling system. Remove radiator, A/C condenser and necessary grille components. Remove intake manifold(s). See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove valve covers.
2. Remove timing gears. See TIMING CHAIN . Remove lifter guide retainer, guide plate and lifters. Check camshaft end play and replace thrust plate if necessary. Remove camshaft thrust plate. See Fig 1. Carefully slide camshaft out of cylinder block.
