Alternator Indicator (Sable & Taurus)
- Disconnect voltage regulator connector in engine compartment. Connect a jumper wire between terminal "I" and ground. Turn ignition on. Indicator bulb should glow at full brightness. If light comes on, go to step 4).
- If light does not come on, check for presence of bulb socket resistor. If resistor is missing, replace bulb socket. If resistor is present, check printed circuit board contacts.
- If circuit board is good, check bulb for continuity and replace if necessary. If bulb is not burned out, check wiring between ignition switch and regulator.
- If indicator lights, remove jumper wire and connect plug to regulator. Connect voltmeter negative lead to battery positive post. Connect voltmeter positive lead to regulator "A" terminal screw. Battery voltage should be indicated. If battery voltage is not present, check wiring.
