Steering Sensor
Steering sensor is a photo-cell type sensor mounted on steering column. See Fig 1 . Steering sensor is used to determine straight-ahead position of steering wheel. When air suspension control module determines straight-ahead position, it then measures steering wheel turning angles. Air suspension control module then calculates lateral movement. If calculated lateral movement is less than predetermined value, strut dampening is changed to a firm position. Steering sensor is used to determine steering wheel straight-ahead position and is also used to calculate steering wheel turning rate. If steering wheel turning rate is faster than a predetermined rate, strut dampening will be switched to firm position. This function is primarily used for accident avoidance maneuvers.
