Pinpoint Test AA

  1. Turn ignition on. Turn headlights off. Check for backlighted message center module. If other modules are blank or too dim, go to step 2). If other modules work properly, go to step 6).
  2. Turn ignition on. Press any button on CCA switch assembly. Listen for tone when button is pressed. Look closely at speedometer and gauges. If backlighting is dark, it may be necessary to shine a strong light onto cluster. Go to step 7) if normal pattern exists. Go to step 3) if normal pattern is not present.
  3. Check for blown fuse No. 16. Go to step 4) if fuse is blown. If fuse is okay, go to step 5).
  4. Before replacing fuse, turn ignition off. Disconnect battery ground cable. Using an ohmmeter, check for short circuit between circuit No. 797 side of fuse and ground. If no short exists, replace fuse. If short circuit exists, repair circuit No. 797.
  5. Reconnect battery cable. Measure voltage from circuit No. 797 side of fuse No. 16 to ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to step 6). Repair open circuit in fuse holder circuit No. 38 if voltage is less than 10 volts.
  6. Turn ignition off. Remove EIC. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage at EIC harness connector pin C3 and pin B5. Check for continuity between pin C4 and ground. Replace EIC if battery voltage appears at both pins, and continuity to ground exists. If voltage does not appear at either pin, or continuity to ground does not exist, repair circuit No. 797, 687 or 676.
  7. Turn ignition off. Remove EIC. Remove speedometer light bar. Check bulbs. If bulbs are okay, go to step 8). If bulbs are burned out, replace them.
  8. Check for continuity between pin B13 (circuit No. 464, Black/Pink wire) and pin A32 (circuit No. 464, Black/Pink wire) of EIC connector. If continuity exists, go to step 9). If continuity does not exist, repair circuit No. 464.
  9. Turn ignition on. Measure circuit No. 687 voltage from pin B5 to pin C4 on EIC connector. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace EIC. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in circuit No. 687.
NOTE: LCD displays in EIC respond very slowly at low temperatures. Ensure vehicle interior is warm before condemning EIC as defective.
